The sun shines on DC this weekend, making it the perfect time to get the heck out of your apartments and go to (what I think is) the best farmers market in the city and do some al fresco dining over some truly fabulous pizza.
- Pizza?! Yeah, DC has great pizza. I said it. New Yorkers…shut it! Eater DC had their first ever Pizza Week which made me realize, not only does DC have an abundance of pizza options, but an abundance of really great options! Bravo to Amy McKeever for coming up with the most comprehensive pizza coverage I’ve ever seen. Highlights include: 21 Essential Pizzerias, Best Pizzerias for Drinking Beer, The Ultimate Pizza Glossary for DC
- DC’s other great obsession of late seems to be butchering and charcuterie. Which makes sense really, the two go hand in hand. Inevitably, when a chef is breaking down a pig, he’s left with pig parts. Well, then what? As Bev Eggleston of Eco Friendly Foods likes to say, “turn them into tasty salty pig parts!” read: charcuterie. Washington City Paper ran a great piece on the butchers of DC and The Washington Post had a piece on the chef/charcuterie gap. Did you know chefs are rarely taught how to cure those tasty salty pig parts we love to eat so much?!
- World Cocktail Week is coming to a close but Washingtonian has a great list of where to celebrate, or how to celebrate on your own.
- Here’s an odd request, on that boozy note: are you a fluent Spanish speaker attending Tails of the Cocktail this year? Spirits columnist Jason Wilson needs your help. You can contact him on Twitter.
Have a wonderful weekend folks! And if you find yourself on the couch, check out this cool timelapse video of the CityZen kitchen!
