In the back room of Fiola, chef Fabio Trabocchi’s Italian trattoria, on Friday several Washingtonians gathered over lunch to fete author Monica Bhide’s latest endeavor, In Conversation with Exceptional Women. The ebook grew out of a series Bhide started on her blog, in which she interviewed women who inspired her including Susan Orlean, Ruth Reichl and Lynne Rosetto Kasper.
Beyond introducing the book, Friday’s event, celebrated several of the local women featured including cookbook author Aviva Goldfarb, TheListAreYouOnIt.com‘s Nycci Nellis, The Chew host Carla Hall, NBC News‘ Vivian Schiller and best-selling author Joan Nathan.
As guests dined on a three-course lunch of soup, grilled fish and a trifle of raspberries and granita, each women spoke about their success and lessons. Hall joked about learning her lessons publicly, acknowledging her time on Top Chef taught her she didn’t like being judged. While Nellis spoke to the power of friends and family. Everyone seemed surprised — pleasantly so — at being included in such a group of very exceptional women.
